Andreas Winiarski moderating the German-American Conference 2019

In June 2019, Andreas Winiarski, as a member of the Atlantik-Brücke e.V., was moderating a key discussion at the German-American conference hosted by Mr. Friedrich Merz.
The discussion dealt with the Western Resilience in the Face of an Economic and Technological Race with China. Julie Fisher (Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, U.S. Department of State) and Ambassador Michael Schaefer (former German Ambassador to China and Chairman of the Executive Board BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt) followed and participated a vibrant discussion among others.

The two main topics discussed and moderated by Andreas Winiarski were:
  1. What are the implications of China’s dominance in technologies like 5G and Artificial Intelligence for the West? Is there an opportunity for transatlantic cooperation on technological innovation vis-à-vis China?
  2. As the Trump Administration takes a tougher line on China, what does it mean for U.S. and EU relations with China?

The Atlantik-Brücke e.V. is the leading private non-profit association to promote German-American understanding and Atlanticism. Next to Andreas Winiarski, the association includes, among others, members like Henry Kissinger (former Secretary of State of the United States of America), Josef Ackermann (former CEO of Deutsche Bank), Joachim Gauck (former President of Germany) and Dr. Angela Merkel (Chancellor of Germany).
